Rose City Copwatch Identifies Killer Cops, Calls for Sery's IndictmentPORTLAND -- Rose City Copwatch held a press conference today announcing the successful conclusion of their contest to acquire a photo of killer cop Scott McCollister. Yesterday, volunteers installed over 1,000 posters in areas of north and northeast Portland. The posters show killer cops Scott McCollister and Jason Sery beneath the tagline, "Getting Away with Murder." "As we expected, the community pulled together to identify McCollister when the police bureau refused to do so," said Rose City Copwatch member Emily Dawson. Rose City Copwatch also called for the immediate firing of Jason Sery and his indictment for murder. "This must be the first step in a top-to-bottom reform of the Portland Police Bureau," said Dawson. "These killings indicate something far worse than a few bad cops. They reflect the racism and violence that define the culture of policing. We as a community must stand together to confront and abolish these injustices." Jason Sery is currently on leave, following the March 28 shooting of James Jahar Perez. Scott McCollister recently returned to duty after a five-month suspension relating to his shooting of Kendra James last May. Both James and Perez were killed in the course of routine traffic stops. Both were African-American. Neither was armed. -- END -- |
